DON’T MESS WITH TEXANS

They may live and work in Vancouver, but Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki left their stomachs in the Lone Star State.

Just how close are Supernatural costars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki? So close that they decided to buy a home together in Vancouver, where they film the show. But these roommates share more than just a mortgage: Both guys hail from Texas, and they credit their similar Southern upbringings with their instant connection. “Texas is its own country,” says Ackles, 31. “Things are just different there.”

When they’re on the set, Ackles and Padalecki still get their fill of home cooking, courtesy of the catering staff, which whips up barbecue on a regular basis. But where do the stars go for grub when they head back to Texas? We found out.

FLYING SAUCER –
“It’s this great beer bar I like to go to when I want to just chill out,” says Padalecki, 26. “It’s really mellow and low-key.”

MI COCINA –
“I could pretty much eat there breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” Ackles says. “You’ve got to get the nachos — a mix of chicken and the steak.”

WHATABURGER –
“Really, the food that I miss the most is Whataburger,” Padalecki says. “[I get] the double-meat, double-cheese Whataburger with fries and a vanilla milkshake. It’s like 4,000 calories!”

NICK & SAM’S –
“I’ll land in Dallas, and my brother will pick me up and take me straight to Nick & Sam’s,” Padalecki says. The steak house is also a favorite of Ackles, who claims, “Jared got that from me.”

DICKEY’S BARBECUE PIT –
“Dickey’s is not a fine-dining establishment,” Ackles says, “but it’s where I’d go with my friends after school or after a game.”
