So Kavya started daycare this week. And we both survived. Well, sort of.
Of course, there were tears involved. But I have to admit, it was mostly me who was doing the crying.
Luckily, it was a short week.
She officially started daycare on September 1, so that meant Wednesday. She went for two days, and Friday and Monday we’re off for Labor Day. This is great because it meant we could ease into it. But it also kind of sucks, because it means next week it’ll be like starting from scratch, especially after a long weekend at grandma’s!
Kavya did pretty well. She loves her teachers, and she’s very interested in the other little kids, most of whom are a few months older than her. She also gets a whole room full of toys to play with, while at home she’s only got her one little basket — although the basket is overflowing already. And she was totally tuckered out by the time I picked her up, asleep in a swing. I think she barely recognized me in her groggy state. But boy was she happy to play with me and her papa when we got her home.
We took her in early Wednesday morning and stuck around for about 15 minutes while she played and got acclimated. She was fine. And my husband asked that I not go in at lunch to check on her and disrupt her day. So I just called. Miss Adele said she was mostly fine, playing a lot, ate a bit — but she LOVES to be held. Uh oh. I think it’s nerves, mostly, but I did lay down the law on over-cuddling her this weekend. We’ve got family meeting Kavya for the first time though, coming down from D.C., so it’s going to be hard to enforce it.
Anyway, about those tears, yes, they were mostly mine. I had plenty to keep me busy — grad school is no joke, and my workload has picked up recently, so there’s lots to do in my six baby-free hours per day.
And my husband and I did go to lunch yesterday on a mini-date to take my mind off things, but Kavi was still on my mind. This is going to take some getting used to, for sure.
How did your little one do the first few weeks of daycare? How did you do?
