3 a.m. Wake-Up Call

12 May 2012 2 Comments

Sigh. For about the third night in three weeks, it’s 3 a.m. and I’m wide awake.

Luckily, tonight, so is my husband, and we’re drinking hot cocoa (and watching Revenge). But that’s not always the case. And this is becoming a habit. One I need to break. I end up conking out at 10:30-ish with Kavya, and when she wants a random bottle  in the middle of the night, I can’t fall back asleep.

Now, I know some would say I should take advantage of the quiet time and spend it writing. But, to use Navdeep’s word, by this hour, I’m way too knackered mentally to manage that. So instead, I catch up on the DVR, or maybe read that huge stack of library books that’s been beckoning me.

But it’s not really productive time. Sigh. And it leaves me exhausted the next morning, when the relentless cycle must continue.

When my son was a baby, I remember watching a lot of TV in the middle of the night. One of the stations used to run Martha Stewart at 2:00 am – it’s like they knew that there would be ladies up at that hour.

Hi Annie — for me it can very frequently be HouseHunters or My First Place on HGTV. I can mindlessly watch ten DVRed episodes in a row and then wonder how it’s suddenly light out.
