Why do I write? Because Algebra is a foreign language. And I hate the sight of blood. Because I don’t have the patience not to open the oven when baking a perfect soufflé. And I like working from home in my pajamas.
But most of all, it’s because I love a good story. Always a voracious reader, as a child it never occurred to me that writing could be my bread and butter when I grew up. But it is. I got my start in journalism with five years as a reporter at People, interviewing everyone from Bill Cosby to Hilary Duff – and some very stellar “real people,” too. From there I graduated to senior editor at TeenPeople, writing and editing entertainment coverage, including cover stories, and eventually running TeenPeople.com. I also have experience creating copy and content for companies as diverse as SoapNet, the Educational Testing Service and Capitol Records.
How does this experience benefit you? With more than a decade in print and online, I’ve developed strong contacts, crackerjack reporting, writing, editing and packaging skills, and a knack for concepting. With experience in print and on the web, I can deliver content that knows its audience – and its medium. SEO, CMS, blogging and social networking are not buzzwords that scare me. I’ve booked celebrities, created print and online packages, rubrics, columns and gift guides, and managed freelancers, photo, production, video and edit teams. All of which translates to superior project management skills and clean, crisp copy delivered on deadline or sooner.
And thanks to a Masters in dramatic writing from New York University, it also means thorough, thoughtful and colorful storytelling, whether it’s the heartrending tale of that charming Long Island couple who reunited and wed some 50 years – a full lifetime – after they were childhood sweethearts or the inside scoop on Hollywood’s latest ingénue. I know how to develop a beat, how to dig deep, how to capture the relatable, down-to-Earth nuances of even the most jaded celebrity or crystallize the next big trend before it happens. Check out my portfolio for pieces from the New York Times, American Way, People, ABC News, MSN, TeenPeople, the Daily Beast, Premiere.com, Modern Bride, NJ Monthly and other major publications.
