Okay, admittedly, the whole Elena ending didn’t come as an uber-shock. But the way it was served up sure was delicious.
I’m talking, of course, about The Vampire Diaries, which is no doubt one of the most edge-of-your-seat guilting pleasures on TV right now. The love triangles, the family saga, the beauteous bloodsuckers. What’s not to love.
I actually was super-excited about the show before it even started airing because I’d read the books when I was a teenager (when they first came out, actually), and Meena and I secretly harbored plans to …

Lately, I’ve been all about learning how to optimize and grow my small business. But I guess I’m not the only one looking to the late Steve Jobs for a meaningful message these days.
According to Steve Jobs’ biographer Carmine Gallo, who spoke to 20/20 about the man tonight, here are the Apple founder’s seven principles of success that “anybody can use, to be more successful, to be more innovative, to live an inspired life.”
1. Do What You Love, no matter what it happens to be. “Don’t settle,” said Jobs. “As …

Jack Black gets nutty on Yo Gabba Gabba. (Here, sans camel toe.)We all know TV is NOT recommended for kids under 2, right? Right? At least, that’s what the American Academy of Pediatrics has been mandating for the last few years. That doesn’t actually stop parents from letting their little ones watch TV. Heck, Kavya gets plenty of small screen exposure, given the fact that I make my living working from home in my pajamas, writing mostly about TV. It can’t be helped.
In fact, lately, at 9 months old, I’ve noticed she pays …

The second season of of the annoyingly ubiquitous MTV hit Jersey Shore – which the network had considered relocating to a hipper beach town, like Miami — is staying in the Dirty Jerz after all. Snooki, the Situation, JWoww, and the rest of the gang will head down south to Miami for a few fun-filled days before decamping back to their Seaside Heights, NJ, beach house. All new episodes begin airing July 29 on MTV.
Which means another season’s worth of har-de-har-har “I can’t believe you’re from there” jokes for this …

Tweet WHO WILL BE THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR?
Happy to report that season five of the Next Food Network Star kicks off June 7th.
With four contestants from LaLaland, it would seem California cuisine is in this season.
Sadly, there isn’t much diversity in this bunch — the majority are white, though we’ve got a Korean-American celeb caterer and an African-American personal chef whose specialty is Caribbean cuisine.
Oddly, it seems the network is hoping to cash in on the popularity of last season’s quirky-cute runner-up Adam Gertler — two of the All-American …

TweetATTENTION TWILIGHT FANS!
Over on the MTV Movies Blog today (or right here, for your viewing pleasure), Twilight fans can nab a first look at the official poster New Moon, the adaptation of the second book in the series. The film is due November 20, 2009, almost exactly a year to release of Twilight.
As Twilighters will quickly realize, the poster highlights the growing tension between Bella’s pal Jacob Black and Edward, the swoonworthy vampire she’s fallen head-over-heels for.
New Moon introduces Jacob Black on a deeper level — and this book …

Variety reported today that as part of cost-cutting measures mandated by the networks, TV shows are slashing their writing budgets, reducing once-bloated writing staffs sometimes by half (if not more). This blow comes on the heels of a Writers Guild strike that has contributed to a major change in the way the networks develop and staff shows — the concept of “staffing season” as we knew it (or not) is quickly disappearing, along with the multi-million dollar development deals that high-level writers had grown accustomed to.
Back in the day, …

TweetThis a.m., Amazon unveiled its new Kindle DX, a widescreen model of the electronic reader that is quickly revolutionizing the book publishing biz.
The new spin is that the Kindle is the It item for college students, who can easily upload their bulky textbooks to the reader instead of lugging them around. The 10-inch Kindle, which is just about a third-of-an-inch thick, can hold up to 3,500 books, magazines and documents.
But clocking in at a whopping $489 retail, the machine may cost these poor students more than the books would …

TweetScreenwriters Spill on Budget Concerns
Should your expected budget affect the way you write a script? According to screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the duo behind Rounders, Oceans 13, Runaway Jury and now, Stephen Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience, the answer is a resounding no.
Last week, as part of the Tribeca Talks series, Koppelman and Levien chatted with former Premiere critic Glenn Kenny about the constraints — or lack thereof — placed on their work by budget quandries. “We
don’t spend a lot of time in the early stages thinking about …
